I just counted but there are 40 teeth on a washer/adjustable race. That works out to 0.0010416666, So if it is tight and you loosen it one tooth, that give a clearance of about 1/3 of an average human hair or 1/3 of the thickness of typical printing paper, plenty of space for a good coating of grease
If you can adjust a bearing to those specs I am quite impressed.
