If you're putting in a lot of saddle time, the clipless protect you from injury. I used the straps and after awhile the tendons in my calf just couldn't take it.

As for getting in and out of the clip without falling, the cleat must be adjusted for quick release. If you do hills and sudden hard stops, the multi-release are way better (about same price).
