So, I don't know, like with a forest fire you can avoid it by stopping throwing half-lit cigarettes into the forest, placing more fire fighters on guard, or chopping down the trees, among other things. But I like my trees.
I like that analogy. We all have risk factors like genetics that we can't change. I'm the last of generations of men who suffered early death from heart disease, plus I have extremely high HDL-c that increases risk. I can't change my genes or reduce HDL-c, so I pay attention to the things I can control: diet, exercise, ApoB (LDL-c) suppression, BP management, visceral fat.
My CAC score was zero last year, and while that's no guarantee of being plaque-free, it suggests that plaque hasn't been forming over many years. Somewhat reassuring. Even so, I'm not letting my guard down for one minute.
