the rear cog is the same as on the old wheel but the chainring has 2 less teath so the gearing is a tad lower than stock

I love the rear light.
I love the rear light.
I just finished customising my latest Electra cruiser.

As beach cruisers go I think the Electra is a decent bike. they seem a little more robust than some others and nowadays their are starting to come into the shop as donations.

This one had probably been left in a shed with pool chemicles because all the exposed steel on the bars, the seat frame, and wheel hubs, was severely corroded.

Surprisingly, the metal frame was devoid of rust .

I actually had to cut the bars in half in order to get them out of the stem which was painted black and unaffected. The tires were harvested off the old wheels and put in the rack at the shop for future donation.

I replaced both with new / used aluminum rims, tubes, and 26 x 2.125 tan wall tires. The old black cranks were swappped with a chrome Schwinn Ashtabula setup and new flat pedals were mounted.

I love the bobber style so rear fender was cut up and fit at the rear. The old long horn bars were trashed and I don't really like that style so I rummaged in my pile and pulled out a nice set with a 6" rise and moderate width . I think they fit the esthetic and are cumfey in the saddle .

Setting the frame up for paint was pretty easy. I sanded down any rusty spots and treated them before spoting them in primer and sealer, then sanded the black painted frame and fork with 600 grit and sprayed a couple coats of Rustoleum black . As soon as it set I folowed with 3 coats of Rustoleum color change paint. A week later, after the Ruso had a chance to dry, I sprayed the frame with Samurai 2 part clear.

The results speak for themselves . I will only say I plan to try out some of the other colors in future builds
