I do love a dedicated crimper, though the one I use is a remnant of my audio circuit building days, complete with gauge markings. And I just happened to be using it the moment before I saw this thread! As I assume the VAR does, it produces a nice, clean, symmetrical crimp with very little effort and really squeezes the hell out of those endcaps enough that I’ve never had one slip off. If I use the 18awg crimp on a brake cable, that thing is basically fused on.

Needless to say, there are a couple other appealingly priced tools here that have me coping with temptation…
