What a ride it has been! Starting a small business, navigating the pandemic insanity, and now -- whatever the hell seems to be going on in the world. We let many of our customers know over the weekend that Cycles Chinook is ceasing operations. While many external factors related to economic conditions, trade relations, tariffs, and industry contraction has influenced this decision, it was also one that was based on what was best for our family. Family business starts with FAMILY! While it's been an emotional rollercoaster, we know it's what we need to do. We thank everyone of one of you for your support over the years and all of the wonderful, supportive, tear-producing messages we've received this past week.
Hopefully our paths will continue to cross on the road or trails.
Our message regarding our closure is included below:
Dear Valued Customers and Friends,
As many of you know, 2025 has been a challenging year for the bike industry. Tariffs, global conflicts, inventory surpluses have eroded consumer confidence while driving up costs for businesses and households alike. We’ve adapted to this change in demand by shifting our professional time and focus toward less volatile industries, while continuing to operate Cycles Chinook in maintenance mode. In this low energy mode, it has become painfully clear that our fixed operating expenses, that continue to rise while sales decrease, have made our small scale operation unviable.
We've made the deeply personal and difficult decision to cease operations at this time.
Effective earlier this month, Cycles Chinook ceased formal operations. We want to let you know there will be no new projects -- bikes, frames, forks, stems, anodizing -- or warranty work. The web store is still open for liquidating parts inventory. Additional items may be added to the web store as we clear out the workshop. As the bike industry shrinks, we recommend visiting your local bike shop for maintenance, repairs, and parts.
Back in 2017, when a passion project blossomed into a niche bike business, we never imagined it would evolve into the brand and relationships we've made together. We thank you all for believing in us when we were new, and supporting us as we grew. In that time, we’ve worked with incredible people to deliver high performance bikes for travel, adventure, racing, and enjoyment. While the bikes are cool, we value most the friends we made along the way. Thanks for joining us on this ride.
