Its a pedal assist ebike system and
its actually what Mahle call the Mahle XS system made for lightweight bikes. so for the US market its a Class 1, not a Class 2 20mph or a Class 3 28mph with a throttle.
These Mahle hub motor
exists in two versions, one with a 25km/h assist limit, another one with a 25mph assist limit, but Pacific Cycles has to decide if they want to have two types, one with 25km/h and another with 25mph for the different market legal requirements (and I have some doubt about the ability of these hub motor to reach 25mph with 50x355 wheels)?
And the small 171Wh bottle battery won't last long when riding at 25mph.
If you want a lightweight e-folding bike with an e-assists till 28mph, buy a Bike Friday All-day with a Bosch Performance Sprint mid-motor which is the 28mph version of the usual Performance SX.
