I need to enlarge the opening by 1/2 inch and the existing border is 2 pieces of steel (? See pic below) I tried heavy duty cutters and a hand held hacksaw but neither worked. I tried bending the metal and it is quite rigid.
I think I need a small power tool to cut this. Will ask my neighbor who is handy, but any comments?

Had the same issue with a new dog door (which our cat uses). I had to remove the door, put it on saw horses, use their template to increase the size and then got out my radial saw and miter saw. It was a PITA but modifying the dog door wouldn’t work.
