My biggest bet was buying 1000 AAPL in 1995, when the company's continued existence was in doubt.
My biggest regret was reducing my shares of AAPL as the price rose, because I feared losing the gains in a downturn. Every time the price doubled, I sold half.
After all the stock splits, those 1000 shares would now be 112,000 shares.
Whean Apple was looking like it was going in the tank, my mother called her investment man and told him to buy 1000 shares. On his own, he decided to “protect her” and did not make the buy and did not tell her - she seldom looked at her earnings reports, but two years later she wanted to see how much she had made and opened a report and was dumbfounded to not see Apple. The price was so high then that she couldn’t get in. I told her a law suit was in order, but she didn’t pursue it
