Nice ride today. A tad warm, at least by Peninsula standards, at about 85-88, but I loaded up my bottle with ice and headed out. At about 2 1/2 miles in, I could see something ahead of me, which turned out to be a doe and two small fawns trotting down the road. One of them needs to stick closer to Mama if he wants to avoid being Lion Chow.
As I was heading down Canada, it felt like the wind was in my face, and looking at the grass on the side of the road, it was all bending towards me. The last maybe half mile before the turn, it seemed to die down, but as soon as I turned around
, it was in my face again, and sure enough, the grass was now bent towards me AGAIN. Omnidirectional goddam headwind. I looked at some weather stations on Weather Underground, and sure enough, between 11 and 1, the wind changed direction from SE to NNW. Apparently the change followed me down all 6 miles on Canada Rd, so I could ride into the wind the whole time.
I got passed twice by younger, fitter riders. The first time I TRIED to stay in contact but he was just more aero. Also stronger. The second time, I hung on a couple bikelengths back for about a mile till we parted ways. That felt good! And it turned out I'd gotten a
PR for that route. Not too shabby!
