Spent a night in Huntington, IN. Had a Dan Quayle Burger at a local joint. (It’s his home town.). It was nothing special, just like him. During our last night in IN a woman at a bar called Staggers in Monroeville lifted her shirt for my camera. Forum rules prevent me from posting the photo.
Those were the highlights of IA and IN.
I've gone across Iowa 3 time. Twice when going to and returning from my brother's wedding in MN, back in 1973. 5 of us in Dad's Citroen DS21. I don't remember the Iowa part.
The 3rd time was in 1988 when Mrs. GJ and I were travelling East to visit family during my 7th year sabbatical at Genentech. We had a book that listed great places to eat local specialties across America, and one place just of I-80 was supposed to have great tenderloin sandwiches, but had apparently changed hands since the book came out, because there was nothing like that on the menu. The food was the worst we had on that whole trip, and the waitress had one of those permanent frowns. The next day, when we were at the motel packing to leave, I forgot my pillow, dooming me to 6 weeks of whatever pillows were available.
So, I don't have good memories of Iowa.
