The “Midwest” is a large area, stretching from the Canadian border to the Mexican border and from the Mississippi to the Rockies. It could even be generously stretch up the Ohio River Valley. There are lots of place where you can drive for more than 300 miles without finding food. I’m not talking about convenience stores but places where you can get food to actually cook.
