Get a helmet that fits, is comfortable on your head and has a good rating with VA Tech. As you go up in price the helmets generally get lighter weight and more ventilated which makes it more comfortable on the head and easier to wear. MIPS is old technology but is still in use however a lot of brands are doing their own version or idea to do the same thing.

My favored helmet is the Lazer Z1 Kineticore, I am on my second Z1 and my 3rd or 4th Lazer helmet and am quite happy with them, have tried a bunch of other helmets and I think I am going to stick with the Z1 for a while unless they discontinue it or make something lighter and more comfortable.
