There's competitive pricing and then there's selling known-value items at cost just to get people in the door. Product makers don't like that because then all their other retailers get pissed off (no chance at competing so a lot of the time they just stop carrying the product ... ie. turtle lights). Worst case scenario, they find out that their products are being tossed out the door for cost so that the retailer can sell someone ELSE's product for the real mark-up. That'd be messy.
