Sorry for any weirdness in this post. It's taken me 20 tries to post this and I'm trying not to make duplicates.
Jess and I had a great ride today, and since it was wet and rainy at the start of the ride, I decided to take the beater bike. It's really bizarre, because that bike really is nothing special, and has a pair of old Mavic Open 4 CDs on Ultegra hubs that I hand-built sometime during Bush's father's presidency, but the bike just... FITS. I dunno, sometimes it feels way better than my OCLV. It makes no sense. Oh well.
Anyway, we did a short ride because we have lots of stuff to do today (mother-in-law is visiting) and the weather really picked up, so the vest and arm warmers came off. In the last mile of the ride, we were coming down a small hill, and behind me I hear BAM!! Jess's front tire blew right off the rim at around 30mph - something she's had nightmares about since she's started riding. Fortunately it was a non-event, and she pulled over to the side of the road.
I checked the tire, and it had worn through at the bead. Old age. So I sprinted off to get the car. As I got near the house, a neighbor waved me down, so I turned to see what she wanted. I hopped up on the sidewalk, and as I got the back wheel up the curb, the bloody chain somehow came off the chainring. I lost balance slightly, just enough for my front wheel to get caught in this gap in the sidewalk (the only such gap anywhere within eyesight) which taco'd it instantly.

So I had to ride back to the house with the brakes flipped open.
So now I get to walk back down to the neighbor's house with my front wheel and try to un-taco it in the other direction. Oh well, could've been worse. I could've taco'd the new Bontys.
