When I first started riding (I was not in good condition and I was 53), I found that riding 3 times a week worked well. That's basically every other day with a two day break after a longer ride than normal or a ride where I pushed very hard. My rides were about 12 miles each way and I rested before coming back. Now I ride about 5 days a week.
