My first "racing" road bike was a Trek 400 - 1989 model, downtube shifters, biopace ring... I loved it. I miss it. My first MTB was a Trek, my second is a Trek (though it's nowhere near as nice as the first one). My current road bike is a Specialized, which I love. It's a joy to ride (except for the Alex wheelset, which I'm convinced is made of paper mache and duct tape - the new wheels are coming this week).

I have to say that I don't dislike Trek. I like Trek a lot, actually, but I've sort of... fallen out of love with them. I dunno, maybe it was just a thing. But I don't get excited by the thought of a new Trek. A Lemond, maybe. A Cervelo, you betchya. A Specialized S-Works Tarmac? Drool. A Mercx? Oh yes. But the Madone? Yes, it's a great bike. But I'm just not all that into it. Sorry, Trek. Really... it's me, not you. I'm sure we'll stay good friends.
