I rode a compact 50/34 with a 12/27 in back. I still could've used more for the punishing extended stretches of 10%, and the 15% sections at the top of some of the climbs. If I was running a 9 speed drivetrain, I would've used a mtn bike cassette with a 34. I'm starting to look forward to doing again this year, I hope you make it.
