I started riding with a pair of Specialized Pro Carbon shoes, then later picked up a pair of Sidi Genius 5 Megas. Even after adjusting seat height for the difference in sole thickness, spending quite a while tweaking my cleat positioning, and everything else that could be customized, the Sidis still caused massive, gut-wrenching pain in my left knee. Despite everyone saying that the Sidis have bad arch support, it felt to me like someone had shoved a ping-pong ball in between my arch and the shoe -- like there was far too much arch support. The pressure made my arches hurt while just standing still. I have no idea why. I'm young, have good knees, and never experienced any pain at all while cycling until I tried using the Sidis for a couple of weeks. I went back to Specialized Pro Carbons. The pain went away after a few days, and I've been comfy ever since.
Some shoes fit some people; other shoes fit others.
