2 major questions I have:
-What are the first parts to typically fail?
-How durable is the frame? Because if the frame is good, then upgrading stuff should be no problem (ideally, I'd like to get a 3 or 4, maybe 7 speed internal shifting hub... someday... and probably slightly thinner tires).
The frame should be pretty durable, it's pretty solid fat-tubed aluminum from what I remember from picking the bike up at Wal-Mart. As for the components.. I really have no clue with the Varsity because all of the parts are no-name components. Even then, stay away from internal shifting. Trust me, you won't like it, and those don't really work well on a road bike. Try swapping out the butterfly shifters on the stem for bar-ends from your LBS, and asking them to tune your derailleurs a little.
