Not to hijack, but I will be moving to Austin in two months and need advice on a commuting route. Actually we will be living in Bastrop (my wife has a job there), so I will be driving, parking, and riding, most likely. The furthest I can start toward Bastrop seems to be near Montopolis and the river (taking the Town Lake trail to the southwest side of town). It there any way to get east of the airport other than Burleson Rd? I drove the recommended route from Austin-Bastrop and it sure didn't look safe...
