I don't ride as far as you do, maybe 30 miles round trip (or more if I take a detour home,) but you have the right idea--eating right is definitely going to be a plus.
I would recommend eating that protein immediately after the ride, instead of waiting. Carbs are very important too, just balance it out a bit with other stuff as well. The sooner after the ride you can eat that protein and carbs, the faster your muscles will recover. Don't leave out fat, some fat is good. (Take along quick snacks on the bike for emergencies.)
Rest is important, too, and as others have mentioned before, slow down on the bike a bit so you don't wear yourself out.
