edit: from the foxracing webpage: "Fox Racing first opened for business in 1974, when Geoff Fox, a Ph. D. who taught physics at the University of Santa Clara, launched Moto- X Fox, a tiny distribution business for European motocross bikes in a 1,500-square foot building in Campbell, California."
from fox shox webpage: "1977 - Bob [Fox] started his own company, "FOX Factory, Inc."
Gastro, as usual, you are right. They ARE two separate companies. However they
are connected in the fact that Geoff and Bob Fox are brothers and both companies were born as offshoots of the original Moto-X Fox. In the fog of my faulty memory of 'wayback' stuff, I forgot that Bob did not start both companies.
In an autobiography of Jim Gianatsis (the famous former Cycle News photographer), he states that he (Jim) "had built up a close working relationship with Geoff and Bob Fox, the owners of Moto-X Fox, one of the premier emerging motocross product companies of the time with their Fox Shox and motocross apparel. Jim went to work at Moto-X Fox as their first Marketing Director, assisting Geoff with designing the motocross apparel ine, while handling all the advertising and catalog design and photogaphy for the company."
