well after two Lone Stars it would clamp safely if I was to ride shoulders and drops but not the part where they come back in towards the stem.

Anyway one layer of Cateye bar tape did the trick. Not to mention I wanted to wrap the entire bar so it turned out perfect. I'm pretty psyched about using these bars with my new fixed.
