Fifteen years of riding, six years of fitting folks to bikes in a shop, and the fact that commonly available cranks in the lower groupsets are either 170, 172.5 or 175. Five mm is just not enough difference for the recreational rider to sweat, plus it's an expensive change.
It's the simple, obvious solution OP needs; his reach is too long. That and he needs to work on his flexibility.
