The Deore hub on my new bike is SILENT, the tire noise totally drowns it out! I agree with the quiet hub aficionados, part of the beauty of a bike is silence. I recently bought a pair of FSA wheels for my road bike and they are damn noisy. I have a feeling that I will end up trying a thicker lube one day soon...

As for the OP's problem, I wouldn't be concerned unless the hub were to slip/skip. I would be wary of using 3 in 1 oil though as it does tend to turn into a gummy mess with time. I have found that Mobil 1 75-90W gear lube seems to do well for freehub lubrication.
