Wasn't it another great Democrat, Tip O'Neil (whose personal calorie reserve could have taken him on several world-wide tours) that said, "All politics is local" ? Kennedy needs to keep the votes coming from his local constituency in order to maintain his well-heeled lifestyle and position of power. This is a drawback of representative democracy.

Frankly, I don't see anyone from either major party willing to stand up and tell the American people what they need to hear: CONSERVE OR DIE!

To Diane: Is it still $4.09 -- or did it come down? The "highest price in the nation" reports I've been hearing don't mention anything over $4, so thinking it was a local anomaly.
