Bikes: bikes without brakes

I think one of the main objectives of a critical mass ride is to gather as many bike riders in the area together to make it apparent that cycle commuting is a serious mode of transportation. Starting a vegan straight edge ride would take riders away from critical mass just like splitting up to hit up bars does. I can be vegan and straightedge (although I don't affiliate myself with the straightedge movement, I just don't drink or do drugs) without anyone else in critical mass knowing, can't drunks do the same? Maybe I am being too harsh but I don't think anyone can argue that splitting up or ending a critical mass ride early is more important than actively protesting car culture. Above all it's completely alienating to kids riding critical mass that are under 21 when the entire ride decides to hang out for the remainder of the ride inside of a bar.
