I get left hooked in the left lane too. I find splitting the lane between the bus lane and the lane to the left (or vice versa if I'm on the left side of the street), gives me a better chance at maneuvering around people changing lanes to make turns. Or riding down the middle of the street if I'm moving fast enough.
