As Danno said, they are not bad for you. My post above was mearly pointing out it may be bad for your wallet. Most people, even those who are extremely active, dont need all the high priced performance 'stuff'.
If your livelyhood depends on it, or your just highly competitive and near the top of your tier, the added 1% may be worth the cash. For most, it isnt needed. In the winter I do 1000 km a month on my bike, in the summer I do 1600-1800 km a month. I get by fine.
