Touring on my Bianchi Brava - Gear Critique?
Hello. I'd like to use the following bicycle (which began life as a stock
Bianchi Brava road bike but which has had many components replaced per the
following list) for extended touring, possibly including a ride from
Seattle to San Francisco, and possibly including a ride across the U.S.
I realize that the Bianchi Brava wasn't designed to be a touring bike, but
then on the other hand I won't be carrying insane amounts of weight (i.e.
although I might bring an ultra-lightweight sleeping bag and pad for
perfect nights, it will mostly be credit card touring) and in absolutely
horrific weather I'd be willing to take a day off.
The main issue as I see it is that the tires and frame on this bike do not
allow sufficient clearance for a full set of fenders (e.g. SKS P35), and
so instead I'm using a pair of SKS XL Race Blades, but like I said I'm
willing to take a day off in horrific weather. Also, the headlight
recharges from mains power (i.e. a power outlet), but I really don't see
myself riding at night, plus I'll be doing a lot of hotel stays.
Does anyone have specific suggestions for equipment or components, to
replace or augment any of what follows? Asterisks are placed by items
that replaced the equivalent component which originally came with this
bicycle.
