For NYC, the price is definitely right. $100 would be a very good deal. Usually, that gets you something (hopefully, but not surely CroMo) with aluminum wheels and in decent tune. Anything less than $100 means complete WalMart quality, or steel wheels.
It's funny, actually: after looking around and inquiring after others, it seems that there is no vintage bike-riders' club here in NYC, nor do there seem to be a lot of people interested in restoration/collection. I can only surmise that this is a direct result of not having enough room, but I have to say, I've managed to fit quite a bit into a very small space
