An unforseen benefit of bike touring

Two weeks ago, I finished an 800 mile bike tour of Southern California and Arizona. After getting back, I wasn't hitting the biking too hard. I rode once a week for the following two weeks; a total of under 60 miles.

All of a sudden, the (only) bathroom remodel takes a turn and there is no toilet in the house for 4 days! I decide that the best way to spend the time is on the bike. In a day, I gather my stuff and head out for a loop north of San Francisco (Samual P Taylor state park, Bodega Dunes state park, Spring Lake regional park (Santa Rosa), ol' Sam Taylor again, home).

If I didn't have touring equipment right at hand and been in "touring shape," I would have either 1) stayed in the house without a toilet or 2) driven or flown somewhere. The first option was unthinkable and the second one would have cost me several times more money!

Who know that bike touring could be so quick and easy!
