I've had it with road biking and I'm throwing in the towel. After a weekend 15 mile ride on
the flats (Silver Comet Trail) on the old Cannondale and my girlfriend on her Bianchi touring rig, both of us stayed smarting from the ride for most of the weekend. Sore butt, sore legs, sore shoulders, sore back, sore neck, sore wrists, sore crotch. I got tired of both of our griping, frankly.
It's not that we're strangers to riding - I mean we do 5-10 mile evening rides around the neighborhood often enough. But a flat 15 miler nearly kills us. I'm really tired of having my joy of riding and fitness routine limited by the amount of pain I can tolerate on the machine I use. Sure, I'll get the old "maybe your bike doesn't fit" or some training tips - but the truth is that a lot of the posts in this forum deal with pain and discomfort during and after rides.
I test rode some recumbents recently. Very weird experience but likely the most comfortable cycling experience I've ever had. Going back to my road rigs afterwards solidified the "this sucks" thought that I had remained in denial about since I've ridden road rigs. So, basically I've put my roadie and hybrid up on eBay and I am getting 'bent.
