It's ineffective because both thread off in the same direction.
to be safe you might want to take it to your LBS and have them check it out. , or do some research and do it yourself.
i'd suggest the latter, it's always good when you can learn something new to maintain your bike.
But since we've established it's a flip/flop and one side has a freewheel on it, aren't we safe to assume the other side is double threaded?
I don't know of any free/free flipflop hubs.
I guess it's possible that the LBS put the freewheel on the fixed side and then put the fixed cog and BB lockring on the freewheel side, but that'd just be retarted.
