The wife's roadbike is a Made in Japan Nashbar 2000 ETS with Tange 5 tubes, Shimano Exage derailers and Biopace rings.
I bought it for her new in 1988 and though I've tried, she loves it and won't ride anything else. Changed out the drop bars for northroad upright touring bars with gripshift and she's a happy camper.
