New bike- $1800, new pedals- $100, new shoes- $90, zero experience- priceless. Doing a test ride around the neighborhood just checking the bike and brifters out- everything is going fine after a couple of laps around the cul-de-sac so off I go down the steep hill the house is on. The bike just flies down the hill and I have this big smile on my face as I continue on for a bit, then turn around to come back up the hill. Right before I get to the house I completely run out of steam. Flop! I'm scraped and skinned but the bike is fine except for a nice gouge on the side of one of the Ultegra pedals. While looking at the pedal I notice that there is an adjustment screw! *Tweak tweak tweak* No problems since.
