recoverable disaster?

A year ago, my Connondale Delta V-900 was in my apartment when I had a fire. There does not appear to be frame damage, but between the heat/soot/water, I am sure it needs to be striped and rebuilt. The bike is from 1992, but I love the way it performed and it fits me well, so rebuilding would be preferable to replacing. I have a friend who has some build knowledge, but I am totally inexperienced and hope you folks can give me a little direction. Would it be cost effective or am I just out of my tree? Where would the best place to get parts for my vintage beast? Any other advice would be great!
Thanx
