not always true.
i don't use much creme when i wear assos, but if i'm wearing Pearl Izumi, or my old team kit, then i apply an ample amount to lube the 'taint. For rides under 90 mins, then i might skip it, regardless of what I'm wearing.
to the OP - stay away from performance branded shorts/bibs, and search the forum for recommendations on what to buy. there's been plenty of threads on it. once again, be willing to spend some cash. Italian like Nalini, Santini are decent starting points, and cheap.
