by far the best kicks i ever used when i used toe clips and straps were cross country running spikes. the stiff ass forefoot prevents the aches associated with the "foot wrapping around the pedal" and the midsole is flexible enough for walking. because they're a running shoe, the molded toe part prevents keeps the middle of the toe clip from digging into your big toe. these are what i rocked:
i have to say that i wouldnt't trade my sididom's for that setup ever again, but if you're set on clips, spikes are the way to go - if you want stiffer, go with racing models
