Hey IM:

I am slightly prejudiced here - I think it's legitimate to break it up into bite size portions -- I did it in 2 summers (Calgary to Ottawa then Ottawa to Calgary via St John's and Victoria). It's still a huge undertaking....I know a guy who's doing it in 2 week segments starting at Halifax and is now up to Winnipeg. Most people can't get enough free time to go all the way across in one trip, especially if they are unsupported.
