"What qualifies?" is one question; "What should you do?" is, in my mind, a more valid one.
There are quite a few arguments in favour of the split-up tour. Time is certainly an issue, but using the best time of the year for touring through each region and not getting "fed up" by a long tour are also very valid reasons. Spending more time in some regions and "forgetting" others is also a good idea, although it's less of cross-Canada tour(s) by then.
Since you live in Toronto, you might cut down on the logistics by finishing your tours at home. You could ride Vancouver to Toronto one year and Toronto to St. John's another year, for example.
