Most English pronounciations of foreign words are incorrectly accented, so why be anal over getting just one or two right? And how about Campagnolo? I started cycling in England in the fifties and it was always "Campag". When those type of bikes became better known in America a couple of decades later, "Campy" was coined, but it still sounds weird to me.
I don't think the OP was being anal, I think they just wanted to know how Nishiki is pronounced here. Quite honestly, there are so few Nishikis in North Carolina that I wasn't sure myself. Apparently, I've been pronouncing it the same as you. I agree with you, it may be interesting to know how the Japanese pronounce Nishiki, but I have no intention of trying to be politically correct. I'll continue to murder the pronounciation and call it as I did before.
