I can see the possibility of wiping debris off a tire, but I can also see that gloved hand just pushing the debris further in the tire or having no effect at all. All I can say for sure is that my friend who always wiped his tires and I who didn't (tried it a couple times, got a burned finger and/or dirty gloves) usually got about the same amount of flats in a year's time.
