I like wearing gloves. I think I wear them because I don't really like the feeling of having a a warm torso and legs with cool hands. Cool hands/fingers creates a mental division in that they begin to feel seperated as they deal with differing conditions compared to a stable core. I don't know how to explain that.
If there is a cool chill/breeze against my hands while the rest of me is sweatin like a pig I can almost begin to feel sick.
Same with hats/helmets and sweaty hair. If my head is going to be very warm/swampy and the hair on back of by head becomes sweaty and rapidly cools as the moisture evaporates you can kiss my performance goodnight. Totally disturbs my mental focus. I like to keep as constant a temp as possible throughout my body while riding. I like being warmer than cooler. I perform better when sweat drips from every part of my body than when I'm cool, dry and comfortable. I believe that is because once you hit a certain point you lose all inhibitions and don't care about -anything- else but the task at hand. If I were to be cool and comfortable all throughout it's as though my brain wouldn't quite understand how much work I'm doing and thus never get truly focused -or in the "zone."
