I feel for you. I used to live in a neighborhood called Crosspoint. It's on rt 123 between fairfax city and Woodbridge. My brother got blown off rt 123 by an 18 wheeler. I'd never ride on those roads. I used to know a back way to Fort Belvior that was nice but that was 15 years ago. If you can get on trails that connect out past reston and leesburg it's a little more civilized out there. Good luck.
The area around Crosspoint has changed a lot.
Lorton closed and the prison is being turned into high end housing.
They are a couple of months away from finishing the widening of 123 to 4+ lanes. And they will have a good sidepath from Fairfax City to Occaquan.
Belvoir closed to all but authorized military traffic. Now you have to go around instead of through, and the few roads available are very busy.
