I agree, you probably would buy a new fork if you had gotten one of the bikes the members on here recommended. BUT, I doubt it would have been in the first month you bought it. You might have actually been able to ride it for a while, figure out what you like and your riding style, save up then buy a fork to suit your needs. Now you are just scrambling to find any cheap fork that you could throw on your bike.
And as for disc brakes...there are always posts about issues because it seems like people are scared of their brakes. Disc brakes aren't as fragile/magical as everyone seems to believe. And
most of the posts about brake issues are generally from newbies or people with lower end brakes.
