Just make sure you're wearing some kind of eye protection, as you'll probably be bracing the wheel against your chest and, assuming your right handed, the dust will be flying towards you. Start with light pressure and increase as necessary, while (of course) making sure you don't damage the rims.
With me, it's not so much laziness as lack of patience. I want to get the job done and get on with the next task.
Tubular rims are a hearty breed - I've done more than a few quick cleanups, ham handed as all get out, with no damage.
