Your post is making me impatient.
My 2 1/2 year old still rides his radio flyer tricycle sitting on the back ledge. Don't ask why but I can't seem to rid him of this habit. I just can't wait until I can take him on long rides without a trailer.

It seems that I need to start very short rides with him and his tricycle. Maybe then he will pedal like normal instead of fred flintstone.
