Furture plans are atempting to locate a rack/pack ready front fork set and paneirs all around. The rust blotches on the front fork are from the lugs for the bag mount rack. I want to restore it but modernise it a bit at the same time.
I want to go with brifters vs downtubes for example upgrade to a free hub instead of free wheel stuff like that. But still have people know in a instant that it is a late 80s cdale touring bike. It would be a bit expensive of a modernising and realy not worth it money wise other than sentimental reasons and to have somethign unique. Priced out the upgrade and its right around 800 bucks for all.
Yours is the negative image of mine, mine is Black, and will have red tape when I am done installing the shifters and brake cables. I am going to make liberal use of black touch-up paint to cover some bare aluminum.
In upgrading to a freehub, are you concerned with spreading the rear triangle? Everything I have seen online indicates that if it is steel, cold setting isn't a problem, but I have never seen any mention of alternative methods for aluminum.
BTW - to respond to a good point someone made earlier. There are still some quality 27" tires around. I have a new set of Continental Ultra Sport tires that I haven't ridden yet, but seem like they will be nice riders...
I will post a picture when my bike is ready for the road in the next week or two.
